Varanasi Eve

We got to the hotel in Varanasi in the early afternoon of Diwali... the Hindu festival of light and shopping. After check-in and lunch, we spent a couple of hours hearing about the powerful impact of adult literacy. Adults that cannot read do not send their kids to school. They work either on the farms or in "sweat shops". The cycle of illiteracy continues for generations.

In the evening we went to a weaving "factory". Varanasi is famous for silks. I wondered whether the old men on the looms started when they were boys. Richard says hi to his family in Texas.
