Just as there are many gods, there are also many ways to please the god of your liking. Some please god by acts of devotion, bathing in the river (notice the garbage... not to worry, the river is also a god). Others please god by totally renouncing all material possessions. (with the thankful exception of a loincloth). The goal is to break the cycle of rebirths and be rejoined to the one universal force... like a drop of rain rejoining the ocean... no individuality, no consciousness, no purpose.
