We have arrived in Delhi! No one got lost en-route, but then it was a non-stop flight from Chicago. The 777 aircraft must carry an incredible amount of fuel. The route does not go directly over the North Pole but cuts across Norway and down through Russia and Afghanistan. It took an hour to clear immigration, find all the bags and head out of the airport... another hour to get to the hotel. To give you some flavor of the arrrival experience, here are the answers to frequently asked questions...
Yes it is always smokey in Delhi... polution and charcoal cook fires. Yes, traffic jams at midnight, and crowds waiting at bus stops to get home. That three wheeled taxi is called an auto-rickshaw, the human kind are still used in Calcutta. Yes those are people sleeping on the sidewalks. And we really do expect to be up by 7:30am tomorrow, and tomorrow is Sunday!
